We hired Nantucket Homes to finish our 1,300 sq ft basement located in the Glen. Nantucket designed and built a floor plan that met several needs including a theater/entertainment room with built in component storage, theater style lighting for artwork displays, a custom bar (with seating for four) with high end cabinetry, granite countertops, two separate rooms and a full bath. Nantucket installed an in floor heating system without having to sacrifice floor to ceiling height and ejector pumps allowed the flexibility to design around locational limitations of existing “roughed in” plumbing. They brought creative ideas to the development that we didn’t even think of. George’s many decades of experience were an incredible asset and his “team” of contractors were professional in every aspect of their work. We’ve enjoyed countless hours of fun family and friend experiences in the space. And during the pandemic, the space served as a new home office purpose that we certainly never imagined up until now. The Bank were I was employed at the time was also pleased to finance several Nantucket custom built homes and or remodels for clients throughout the North Shore. The book is written by George Knorps: Builder, Developer, Technology & Banking Executive. George was born in Chicago and grew up in Chicago and North Riverside. He graduated with a Mathematics degree from the University of Illinois. He started his building career at age 25 building his 1st home in Crystal Lake at the same time he had a business career for 20+ years working in computer technology and financial services, eventually becoming a division president for Citibank. He has done over 200 building projects all over the North Shore of Chicago, and in other places across the country including Nantucket and Hilton Head. He has always loved building, using the latest products and techniques. This book describes not just the building process but the psychological impact for the homeowner, and numerous building trade insights He is U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam era George and his wife have seven children and three grandchildren and live on the North Shore.
